A Lunch to Remember

We popped in for lunch, drawn by the cozy, rustic décor and the warm welcome from the staff. The name La Mesa means The Table in Spanish — and true to its name, it instantly felt like dining at a friend’s table.

For our feast, we went with:

  • Creamy Garlic Chicken
  • Street-Style Grilled Corn
  • Crispy Fish Fingers
  • Classic Fish & Chips
  • Chicken Parmigiana
  • Mushroom Flatbread

Now, let’s talk about each dish — because they all deserve their moment in the spotlight.

The Dishes We Tried

Creamy Garlic Chicken

Tender pieces of chicken cooked to perfection, smothered in a rich and velvety garlic cream sauce. The flavours are bold yet comforting — creamy, garlicky, and with just the right balance to keep you coming back for more. It’s one of those dishes that makes you say, “Okay, just one more bite,” even when you’re full.

Street-Style Grilled Corn

We loved how this dish captured the playful street-food side of Spain. Sweet, smoky, and lightly spiced, the grilled corn had that satisfying charred flavour that pairs perfectly with the creamy sauce drizzled on top. A simple dish, but so satisfying.

Crispy Fish Fingers

Golden, crunchy, and lightly seasoned — these fish fingers were addictive! They came with a zesty dipping sauce that added a nice kick. It’s the kind of snack you keep reaching for while chatting over drinks.

Classic Fish & Chips

This dish felt like a comfort-food hug. The batter was light and crispy, the fish inside was soft and flaky, and the fries were cooked just right. A squeeze of lemon over the top brought it all together. It’s easy to see why this is one of their crowd favourites.

Chicken Parmigiana

An Italian classic with a Spanish touch! Breaded chicken breast topped with tangy tomato sauce and melted cheese — hearty, satisfying, and perfectly balanced. The chicken stayed juicy inside, and the cheese had that irresistible pull that makes you pause mid-bite for a photo.

Mushroom Flatbread

Straight from La Mesa’s oven, this flatbread was warm, soft, and full of flavour. Topped with sautéed mushrooms and cheese, it was the ideal sharing dish. Earthy, cheesy, and just the right amount of indulgent.

Behind the Flavours: Chat with the Owner

We had the chance to chat with the team behind La Mesa, and their story made us appreciate our meal even more.

What’s the story behind your restaurant?
It all started because our bosses were always hungry! They love Spanish food and were constantly searching for a place in Malaysia that felt truly authentic. They found that many restaurants were either not quite authentic, or the flavours were a bit too strong for our local tastes. So they thought, “Why don’t we create a place ourselves?” And that’s how we began—from a simple love for good food and a desire to share Spanish flavours that everyone here could enjoy.

How would you describe your cuisine or food philosophy in a few words?
Authentic Spanish flavours, made perfect for the local palate. We keep the true soul of Spanish cooking but make sure the taste is rich, flavourful, and just right for our guests.

What inspired your restaurant’s name?
“La Mesa” means “The Table” in Spanish. Our name was inspired by the large, beautiful table that sits in the heart of our restaurant. For us, a table is where friends and family come together to share food, laughter, and good times. That’s the warm, welcoming feeling we want everyone to have here.

What’s the most popular dish — and what makes it special?
That would have to be our Paella. It’s so popular because we do it the traditional way. We use special rice imported from Spain, real saffron, and load it with lots of fresh seafood. Every spoonful is packed with a rich seafood flavour that tastes incredibly authentic.

Is there a dish that’s especially meaningful to you personally?
Yes, our steaks. What makes them special is the experience. Guests can walk up to our fresh meat counter, choose the exact cut of steak they want, and then our chefs will cook it for them just the way they like it. It’s a very personal touch that guarantees you get the freshest and most perfect steak.

How do you source your ingredients?
To get that real Spanish taste, we work with special suppliers to import key ingredients like our paella rice, spices, and olive oil directly from Spain. This helps us make sure everything we serve is high-quality and truly authentic.

What’s one thing people might not know about your restaurant?
The large wooden table in the centre of our restaurant, the one we are named after, was specially crafted by a local artisan. We wanted it to be the true heart of our restaurant, a place where great memories are made.

How has the local community or culture influenced your menu or concept?
The local community is the reason we exist! We created our menu by listening to what people here love. We took traditional Spanish recipes and carefully adjusted them, for example, by balancing the saltiness, to create flavours that are rich, authentic, and perfect for the Malaysian palate.

Do you have a signature drink, dessert, or hidden gem on the menu that guests shouldn’t miss?
You must save room for dessert! Our Homemade Churros are a must-try. They’re served warm and crispy, and are perfect for dipping in our rich chocolate sauce. Our Signature Tiramisu is also a huge favourite that guests tell us they love.

What do you hope guests feel or experience when they dine here?
We hope you feel comfortable and happy, like you’re eating at a good friend’s home. We want you to taste the care we put into every single dish and to leave feeling satisfied, with a smile on your face.
