How We Got to Bukit Melawati from Kuala Lumpur
Our journey to Bukit Melawati started in Kuala Lumpur, and getting there turned out to be an adventure in itself!
- By Car: The easiest and most flexible way to get there is by driving. It took us around 1.5 hours via the LATAR Expressway. Parking was available near the entrance, making it super convenient.
- By Public Transport: Initially, we planned to take the KTM Komuter from KL Sentral to Kuala Selangor, but surprise—the train wasn’t running that day! So we quickly adapted and took a Grab car instead. Travel tip: Always check train schedules in advance!

Our Experience at Bukit Melawati: History and Monkey Encounters
Bukit Melawati isn’t just about monkeys. It’s packed with history! Once a strategic fortress during the Sultanate of Selangor era, the hill still has remnants of old cannons, a lighthouse, and the Royal Mausoleum.
Meeting the Silvered Leaf Monkeys
We were most excited to meet the famous silvered leaf monkeys—and they did not disappoint! These gentle creatures with gray fur and calm personalities stole our hearts. One of the cutest surprises? Baby silvered leaf monkeys are bright orange! It was amazing to see them up close.
The Cheeky Long-Tailed Macaques
While the silvered leaf monkeys were polite, the long-tailed macaques were a different story! These mischievous little guys were always on the lookout for snacks. One even tried to grab a phone! Travel tip: Hold onto your belongings because these guys are sneaky!
